Abstract :
Derivatographic analysis (TG, DTA and DTG) coupled with mass spectrometry, FTIR spectroscopy as well as water sorption experiments were used to study the thermal properties of (NH4)32 [MoVI 110 MoV 28 O416 H6 (H2O)58 (CH3COO)6]·approximately 250 H2O (1) exhibiting the nanosized ‘giant wheel’ anion. The particular stages of sample transformations are discussed and compared with the known single crystal X-ray structure of (1). The giant wheel type clusters appear approximately to be stable up to 350 °C. Interestingly, the complex system can be formally considered as a nanostructured landscape embedded in an ‘ocean’ of water molecules.
