Synthesis and characterization of heterobimetallic μ-hydrosulfido complexes containing Groups 9 and 10 metals

Treatment of bis(hydrosulfido) complexes [M(dppe)(SH)2] (M=Pd (1), Pt (2)) with an equimolar amount of [IrH2(acetone)2(PPh3)2][PF6] in acetone at room temperature under H2 afforded the hydrosulfido-bridged bimetallic hydrido complexes [M(dppe)(μ-SH)2IrH2(PPh3)2][PF6] (M=Pd (5), Pt (6)). Whereas the analogous reactions of 1 and 2 with [RhH2(acetone)(ethanol)(PPh3)2][PF6] yielded the bimetallic μ-hydrosulfido complexes without hydrido ligands [M(dppe)(μ-SH)2Rh(PPh3)2][PF6] (M=Pd, Pt (8)). Detailed structures have been determined by X-ray crystallography for 5, 6, and 8.
