Abstract :
Colloidal gold in acetonitrile catalyzes the disproportionation of View the MathML sourceHg22+ to Hg2+ and Hg0. This catalysis is apparently initiated by the amalgamation of the gold particles which is indicated by a concomitant change of the plasmon absorption of colloidal gold.
