Abstract
Single crystals of a new lanthanum potassium iridate, La2.50K1.50IrO7, have been grown from a molten hydroxide flux. The structure, which is best described as resulting from the stacking of [AO3] and mixed [A2O] layers, is an image member of the [AnBn−1O3n]image family of perovskite-related oxides. La2.50K1.50IrO7 is comprised of [La2IrO6] layers containing isolated [IrO6] octahedra and these layers are separated by a [La0.50K1.50O]+ layer. The compound crystallizes in the image space group with image and image
