SLUGging away at cell death

Programmed cell death (PCD) plays an important role in normal and malignant hematopoieis. In this issue of Cancer Cell, Inoue et al. (2002) demonstrate that the CED-1 homolog, Slug, is a key regulator of apoptosis in the response of early hematopoietic progenitors to γ radiation.
