The Relationship between Social Capital and Participatory Management in Physical Education Offices in Iran

Current work aims at investigating relationship between social capital and participatory management in physical education offices. Research design is correlation type and statistical population includes general managers and deputies in physical education offices of the country (N=128). According to Morgan table, sample size was selected as 96. In order to measure social capital and participatory management, questionnaires of social capital by Nahapiet and Ghoshal (1998) and Mirzaee and Beigyniaʹs participatory management questionnaire (2004) were used. Reliability of the questionnaires were examined and confirmed by the experts. Reliability coefficient of them was obtained as 0.95 using Cronbachʹs alpha test. Results for Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Levine tests showed normal distribution of the variables and homogeneity of variances. Thus, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics including Pearson correlation test, independent t test, one way ANOVA and multiple regression were used for data analysis. Test results showed there is positive significant relationship between social capital and participatory management. Also, there is positive significant relationship between participatory management and social capital components (relational, contextual and structural). In investigation of managersʹ social capital, considering their personal characteristics, no significant difference except their gender was observed in other personal characteristics.
