Abstract :
Glasses in the system TeO2–WO3–ZnF2 have been studied with respect to their densities, molar volume, refractive indices, polarizability, molar refraction and third-order non-linear optical susceptibility. The molar refraction, Rm, and the electronic polarizability, αO2−, of the (TeO2–WO3–ZnF2) have been estimated by the refractive indices at different wavelengths. The third-order non-linear optical susceptibilities, χ(3), were measured using degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM). The value of the non-linear refractive index decreases with increasing ZnF2 – but increases with increasing WO3 concentration. Results obtained are discussed in terms of the glass structure.
