Selective formation of trans and cis(CH3CN) isomers of [Ru(bpy)(CO)2(CH3CN)2]2+ (bpy=2,2′-bipyridine) from [Ru(CO)2(CH3CN)3]2(PF6)2 using an electrochemical oxidation step

The selective in situ synthesis of trans and cis(CH3CN)-[Ru(bpy)(CO)2 (CH3CN)2]2+ isomers from the same [Ru(CO)2 (CH3CN)3]22+ dimer precursor but using either an electrochemical–chemical or chemical–electrochemical process is described.
