Abstract
The extended Debye model is proposed to explain the high frequency (Poley) absorption peak of polar liquids. It is shown that this model satisfactorily describes the experimental data of toluene obtained in the far-infrared region by J. Wiedersich et. al. [J. Wiedersich, N.V. Surovtsev, E. Rِssler, J. Chem. Phys. 113 (2000) 1143]. From analysis of spectra by the extended Debye model two resonance modes were found at low temperature, suggesting the presence of two different molecular structures on a microscopic scale in supercooled and glassy toluene.
