Abstract :
Supramolecular liquid crystalline mixtures that arise due to non-covalent interactions between differing species attracted as means of developing new mesogenic amide. The species include the mesogenic p-n-alkoxy benzoic acid with the carbon number n varies from propoxy to decyloxy and dodecyloxy with non-mesogenic cinnamamide. The liquid crystalline amide was characterized by polarizing optical microscope realized by the differential scanning calorimeter. Intermolecular Hydrogen bonding and the structural determination in the liquid crystalline amide were performed by the infrared spectroscopy and 1H NMR studies. A study of bonded amide at room temperature by powdered X-ray diffraction reveals even–odd effect in intensity and thickness. The detailed study of IR in both the solid and liquid states between the groups convinced the strong inter molecular hydrogen bond between the p-n-alkoxy benzoic acid and cinnamamide and its destruction in solution. The attributed studies by thermal analysis of the liquid crystalline amide reveal linear molecular aggregates with crystal G phase in the entire homologous series.
