Abstract :
The Solid-On-Solid (SOS) model with Kawasaki dynamics has been adapted for investigation of the role of long-range surface forces in the equilibrium wetting. The relations between the macroscopic contact angle and surface forces in the frame of the above model are derived from the principles of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. The conditions leading to the different wetting regimes are defined. The determination and control of the disjoining and capillary pressures have been considered explicitly within the 2-D SOS model. The results of Monte Carlo simulations show a good agreement between the observed wetting regimes and the analytical predictions. The influence of long-range surface forces on the equilibrium drop shape is discussed on the basis of the numerical experiments.
