Abstract
In order to offer worthwhile philosophical perspectives on the form education should take in the face of the rise of ethnic, religious, and cultural pluralism (factors that frequently overlap), many historical, economic, and political threads have to be untangled and their significance understood. In all the nations discussed in this issue tensions exist, fostered by a variety of factors that differ from country to country. In the end, the commonalities across the nations sampled are more startling than the differences. Demographic, economic, and political factors are leading nations to face the same set of theoretical/philosophical issues about multiculturalism.
