Abstract
The tensile creep and creep fracture properties are analysed for seven different ceramic–matrix composites, reinforced with silicon carbide or alumina fibres. For this broad product range, the processes controlling creep deformation and damage evolution are identified, showing that the longitudinal fibres govern the rates of strain accumulation and crack development, with the matrices and fibre/matrix interfaces influencing the times and strains to failure.
