Abstract :
In the present work, a new enrichment criterion has been proposed for modeling kinked cracks using the element free Galerkin method (EFGM). The proposed criterion is based on the full intrinsic enrichment method wherein some additional terms are incorporated in the linear basis of EFGM so as to obtain the crack tip stress singularity. Since the conventional intrinsic enrichment criteria is capable of modeling straight cracks only, hence some modifications have been proposed so as to extend its capability for modeling kinked crack. The effectiveness of proposed criterion is demonstrated by modeling cracks with multiple kinked segments. Further, the proposed criterion has been successfully implemented for simulating quasi-static crack growth under mix mode loading conditions.
