Abstract :
The effects of variable density and variable specific heat on maximum pressure, maximum temperature, bearing load, frictional loss and side leakage in high-speed journal bearing operation are examined. The calculation results are compared with the results calculated under two other conditions, i.e. constant density and constant specific heat, and variable density and constant specific heat. It is found that the consideration of variable density and variable specific heat on the calculation of the bearing load and frictional power loss of journal bearings operating at high speed cannot be ignored.
