Abstract :
In this work generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method as a simple, efficient and high order numerical technique is used for the solution of modified Reynolds equation to obtain the performance of micropolar lubricated hydrodynamic circular and noncircular lobed journal bearings. Effects of micropolarity of the lubricant as well as noncircularity parameter (preload) of the bearings are investigated. Comparing the GDQ method results with the results of FDM/FEM, good agreement between them is observed. The results also show that though the micropolarity of the lubricants improves the performance of the bearings, however, the rate of enhancement is affected by noncircularity of the bearings.
