Abstract :
Five kinds of paper-based composite friction materials with different glass fiber contents were prepared by the paper-making process. The effect of glass fiber on the mechanical and tribological properties of the composites was studied. It was resulted that the shear strength increased initially and then decreased, but the compressibility increased and the recovery decreased as the glass fiber content increased. The friction torque curve of the sample with 10 wt% glass fiber was more flat during mixed asperity contact phase of the engagement, while the friction coefficient (μd) was higher and the wear rate was lower compared with other samples.
