Abstract :
Metal-enhanced fluorescence of quantum dots in a polymer matrix on ordered arrays of Au particles has been investigated. The enhancement depends on the size and spacing of the Au particles, and on the thickness of the quantum dot/polymer composite film. Moreover, the enhancement is affected by ethanol vapor. This is explained by an increased average distance between Au particles and quantum dots, caused by swelling of the polymer. The vapor-induced change in fluorescence enhancement constitutes a new detection mechanism for vapor sensing.
