Miniature planar chloride electrodes

Miniature solid-contacted electrodes for chloride ions were investigated. As an inner contact, the electrochemically deposited gold on screen-printed silver was used. As the ion-exchanger for chloride ion methyl-tri-n-tetradecylammonium chloride was used. PVC or tecoflex were used as the polymer matrices. The influence of intermediate layer of soluble conductive polymer polyaniline (PANI) with adhesive admixture of 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (adh) between inner contact and the ion-selective membrane was studied. The life-time of the electrodes was significantly improved compared to electrodes without the adhesive admixture. The other properties of the electrodes were comparable to those of electrodes with inner solution based on the same ion-exchanger.
