Abstract :
The purpose of this study conducted by the School of Physical Education and Sports Recreation Department is to determine their views on studentsʹ free time. The study was carried out on 119 students (91 males + 28 females), of 200 (145 male + 65 female) students who study in the department of Recreation Training, School of Physical Education and Sports, Ataturk University.
A survey form was prepared for the research with 22 questions. First 7 questions of the survey were related to the demographics of the students and field of study, the questions between 8 and 13 were related to the quality of recreation activities and the questions between 13 and 18 were intended to measure the guidance provided by the school for the students. The questions from 18 to 22 were considered to be qualitative. The opinions of the academics in the department of recreation as well as the academics of the School of Tourism Management were taken while preparing the surveys. Surveys were revised after applying on a pilot group of 20 individuals at first.
The data obtained were analyzed by means of SPSS 16; statistical program and frequency, percentage distribution, correlation, leisure time quality and whether these differ in terms of gender were assessed using Mann Whitney’s U test.
In analysis of the results, it is seen that 20 students had a low level of scores, 62 students had a moderate level of scores, and 37 students have a high level of scores with respect to the scores of recreation activities of the students in recreation department. It is also seen that 38 students had a low level of scores, 49 students had a moderate level of scores and 32 students had a high level of scores in terms of school activities. It is found that female student have more productive leisure time activities.
