The fast wavelet transform on compact intervals as a tool in chemometrics. I. Mathematical background

This paper gives an introduction to wavelets on the real line R and on compact intervals. Fast decomposition and reconstruction algorithms are presented in detail, including pseudocodes. The time frequency localization properties of wavelets are demonstrated on a numerical example related to spectrometry.
