An Approach to Local Refinement of Structured Grids

Structured grids can be refined locally by adding line segments. These are notionally made into complete grid lines by filling the remainder of the line with blanks. A discretization scheme is adapted to this type of grid by adding interpolation points to complete differencing stencils. The Navier–Stokes equations are solved by the artificial compressibility approach. Examples show the efficacy of the method.
