Abstract :
The simple and convenient estimation procedure of gust responses of structures was established by Davenport. This method is also used to give an adequate estimation. However, in the procedure, the spatial correlation of fluctuating aerodynamic forces was substituted by the spatial correlation of approaching flow, because of the difficulty of measurement of the spatial correlation of fluctuating aerodynamic forces. In the recent studies, it is clear that the spatial correlation of aerodynamic forces does not coincide with that of approaching flow. However, the reason for this was not clarified.
s paper, the relation between the spatial correlation of aerodynamic forces and that of approaching flow was investigated by measurements of surface pressures of two plates with different edge shapes. It becomes clear that the correlation of upper and lower surface fluctuating pressures acting around reattachment and separation bubble play important role on the high spatial correlation of fluctuating aerodynamic forces.
