Abstract :
Hf, Mo and W are useful elements for developing refractory intermetallic alloys of high modulus and creep resistance at high temperatures, while little is known about thermodynamic properties in the Hf–Mo and Hf–W systems. In this work, full thermodynamic descriptions of the Hf–Mo and Hf–W systems are obtained by assessing the available equilibrium data, using the CALPHAD method. The Laves phases in the two binary systems are treated using the two-sublattice model to consider their noticeable solubility ranges, showing good agreement with the experimental phase diagram data.
