Abstract :
Tensile tests of binary Ni–Al γ/γ′ two-phase single crystals revealed that the alloys possess large uniform tensile ductility along [001] with low CRSS at room temperature in spite of a high volume fraction of γ′. Cold-rolling behavior was studied using two single crystals with near (100)[001] and (210)[001] orientations. Because of the high workability related to the large ductility and high work hardening behavior both the single crystals were heavily cold-rolled approximately to 80-μm thick foils along [001] without intermediate annealing. The maximum thickness reduction amounted to 95%. Microstructural analysis revealed the evolution of the dual { 110 } 〈 1 ¯ 12 〉 texture associated with a banded structure in the foils similar to the case of the γ′ single-phase single crystals.
