Purely imaginary eigenvalues from homoclinic tangencies

We prove that every orientation preserving surface diffeomorphism with homoclinic tangencies can be C 1 approximated by diffeomorphisms exhibiting periodic points with purely imaginary eigenvalues. This improves a result in Morales (2009) [9].
