Lagrange inversion for species

We give a simple combinatorial proof a Langrange inversion theorem for species and derive from it Labelleʹs Lagrange inversion theorem for cycle index series (or equivalently, symmetric functions). We also discuss the combinatorial meaning of the differential operators that arise in various forms of Lagrange inversion.
