Energy Gap Phenomenon and the Existence of Infinitely Many Weakly Harmonic Maps for the Dirichlet Problem

We study the relations between energy gap and multiplicity of harmonic maps for the Dirichlet problem. We show that if energy gap occurs, then there exist infinitely many weakly harmonic maps for the Dirichlet problem under some topological assumptions of the target manifold.
