Characterization of low degree A-stable symmetric RK collocation methods

A necessary and sufficient condition for symmetric collocation nodes to give an A-stable RK collocation method is presented for low degree methods (n⩽7). The results are obtained by means of the Routh–Hurwitz algorithm. Some “order-stars movies” are shown to illustrate their geometry in the space of parameters.
