Abstract
Monte Carlo simulations of frame structures under dynamic load causing hysteretic response are presented. Since the simulation methods require a high number of repetitions of the same procedure it is of high priority to provide a system of equations with a small number of unknowns. Working in a reduced modal base the concept of plastic shape functions to describe the local hysteretic effects is established. By the use of these plastic shape functions in combination with the original reduced set of mode shapes as used for a linear calculation the number of DOFʹs can be drastically reduced. The investigation is focused on the generation of the plastic shape functions. The responses based on orthogonalized plastic shape functions are benchmarked with reference solutions.
