Abstract :
An empirical with a hybrid statistical-deterministic distribution designed for the assessment of daily SO2 concentrations in an urban environment has been developed and tested on the network of stations monitoring atmospheric SO2 in the Brussels Capital Region. This model makes it possible to determine the relative degrees of responsibility for SO2 air pollution of the three main areas of human activity—indoor heating, motor vehicle traffic and industry—associated with the consumption of fossil energy. The model uses three types of variables—economic, meteorological and environmental—available or assessable for an urban area has been applied to the 1981-1990 period.
