A counterexample to the extension of a product theorem in dimension theory to the noncompact case

We produce, for each n > 0, a subspace Xn of R2n + 1 which does not embed in R2n and whose square has dimension n. This shows that a recent theorem about products of compact spaces cannot be extended to noncompact spaces.
