  • Abstract
This article presents a new object-oriented model structure, entitled multiport diagram, which has been developed to deal with the hybrid nature of batch systems and the heterogeneity of knowledge (theoretical and experimental). The object-oriented paradigm of the multiport diagram is described by the Willemʹs behavioral modeling formalism which brings a reliable and suitable mathematical framework, independent of any programming language. The proposed modeling procedure is based on object-modeling and system identification techniques. It is made up of five main steps: the hierarchical decomposition of the process into module classes, the modules modeling, their interconnection into a multiport diagram, its implementation into a simulation platform and its calibration. An application to a simple batch system is detailed throughout the paper to illustrate the elaboration of the multiport diagram. Its implementation has been supported by the physical modeling language Modelica© and its simulation has been performed in the environments Dymola© and Matlab©.
