Mie theory as seen today. I

In this first part of the review the theory of the light scattering on the spherical objects, updated to the modern state, is considered. The mathematical technique is simplified by using the Hertz-Debye representation of the electromagnetic field and considering the circular (around the vector r) components of the scattering amplitude. All these improvements greatly simplify the theoretical framework and allow to devote more attention to the physical assumptions and discussion of the results.
