Coexistent observables and effects in quantum mechanics

A pair of coexistent observables which can be expressed as a function of a third observable is characterised in terms of positive operator bimeasures and joint measures. A characterisation of sets of coexistent observables in terms of consistent families of finite (nonorthogonal) resolutions of the identity is worked out
