Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to study effect of replacement different levels of apple pomace (AP) on in vitro gas production with barley grain. Fermentation of AP samples was carried out with rumen fluid obtained from three mature canulated sheep. The samples were collected from Gardens of Meyaneh, Iran. Treatments were T1 (20% alfalfa, 80% barley and 0% apple pomace); T2 (20% alfalfa, 60% barley and 20% apple pomace); T3 (20% alfalfa, 40% barley and 40% apple pomace); T4 (20% alfalfa, 20% barley and 60% apple pomace) and T5 (20% alfalfa, 0% barley and 80% apple pomace). The amount of gas production for treatments at 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 36, 48 and 72 hours were measured. The results showed that the crude protein (CP), crude fibre (CF), ether extract (EE), and ash contents were 2.39, 24, 63.97, and 5.76 g/kg DM, respectively. There are not significant differences in the gas volume at 24 h incubation of T3, T4 and T5, but Significant differences were found (P < 0.0001) in T1 and T2. The treatments 3, 4 and 5 had highest OMD, ME, SCFA and NEl. Also, lowest OMD, ME, SCFA and NEl observed in control treatment (T1). According to results of this study it seems that T5 could be used as a valuable level in ruminant nutrition.
