Abstract :
Based on the analytical solution for a point source potential in a two-horizontal-layered anisotropic half-space described in a companion paper, an analytical solution for the point source potential in a half-space with two vertical boundary planes using the image point source method is presented. The positions of the images of the point source in this case are determined by the two vertical boundary planes and the air-earth surface. As in the case of the two-layered half-space, the images due to the vertical contacts can also be classified as reflection and transmission images. This solution provides a complete description of the potential in the anisotropic half-space with arbitrarily located vertical boundary planes. The point source may also be located in any region of the half-space.
e first time, the anisotropic method of images is used to solve analytically the potential of vertical-boundary-plane anisotropic media problems. Further potential application of this anisotropic method includes the N-vertical-boundary-plane half-space, the arbitrarily parallel-dipping-layer case, and the general geoelectrical problem of a three-dimensional body in a medium with vertical boundary planes.
