Abstract
It is well known that the 3-D shape of an organ can be reconstructed from a series of cross-sectional images of human body using ultrasound, Computer Topography (CT), or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). From the reconstructed images, qualitative evaluation, quantitative analysis, and other further clinical research become possible. In this paper, a novel interpolation technique that utilizes the whole object contour information and with no need of feature matching for object reconstruction is proposed. In the method, multiresolution analysis of the object contour of each slices is carried out by using the Wavelet Transformation (WT). The primary contour of the interslices is reconstructed from the coarsest scale information of the slices, while the refined contours are estimated by taking into account the lower scale information of slices. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method and the traditional method, a performance measure is proposed and the experimental results are also included.
