Cholestane-based liquid crystals containing a difluorooxymethylene bridge

A new class of steroid-based liquid crystals was synthesized and characterized with regard to their mesogenic and chiroptical properties. The β-selective formation of the cholestanyl difluoromethyl ether bridge was achieved by an oxidative fluorodesulfuration procedure.
