Efficient synthesis of l-altrose and l-mannose

Two convenient routes for the synthesis of l-altrose and l-mannose from 1,2:3,5-di-O-isopropylidene-β-l-idofuranose in four and six steps via the stereoselective hydroboration and hydrogenation of olefins as key steps are described here, respectively.
