Abstract
2-Phenylthio-1,3-dithiane underwent VNS with various nitroarenes to provide para-dithianyl nitroarenes regiospecifically in good to excellent yields. The resulting nitroaryl dithianes were readily unmasked to the corresponding aldehydes.
