Abstract :
A novel approach to polyoxygenated enantiopure cyclopentenes, α-chlorocyclopentenones and cyclopentenones is described which utilizes the Ramberg–Bäcklund rearrangement of thiosugar-derived sulfones. A formal synthesis of the natural aminocyclopentitol, trehazolamine is also reported.
