Abstract
The stereoselective synthesis of 2,3,3,4-tetrasubstituted tetrahydrofurans from the Lewis acid catalyzed reaction of protected β-hydroxy ketones with benzyl diazoacetate is described. The reaction can be used to set three contiguous stereocenters including one that is a tertiary alcohol.
