Abstract :
The site preference of Zr and Ga in the Nd 2 Fe 14 B -based magnets during the HDDR process was studied by XAFS. Zr in the Nd 12.5 Fe bal Zr 0.5 B 6.2 forms ZrB 2 at the homogenized state and keeps unchanged through the HDDR process. We trace the change of the site occupancy of Ga for the Nd 12.5 Fe bal Ga 0.3 Nb 0.2 B 6.2 at the early stage of the recombination with the relatively slow recombine process. Just after the reduction of H 2 gas pressure, the site of Ga changes from α -Fe to an Fe(4c) site in Nd 2 Fe 14 B even though X-ray diffraction does not change.
