Intramolecular carbene and nitrene insertions at C-2 of diacetone-d-glucose

Decomposition of a diazoester and an azidoformate attached at O-3 of 1,2;5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-d-glucofuranose (‘diacetone-d-glucose’) leads to intramolecular insertion into the C-2H bond as the major process in both cases.
