β-Ketothioester as a reactive Knoevenagel donor

The Knoevenagel condensation of β-ketothioesters with various aldehydes proceeds efficiently, affording the condensation products in moderate to good yield even in cases where the reactions of the corresponding β-ketoesters give the adducts in only low to moderate yield.
