A novel concise total synthesis of (+)-lentiginosine

A total synthesis of (+)-lentiginosine was achieved by using ethyl 3-(pyridin-2-yl)acrylate N-oxide as the starting material and an improved Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation as the key step.
