Abstract :
The asymmetric reaction of ω-oxo-α,β-unsaturated esters with lithium chiral thiolates afforded the Michael–aldol tandem cyclization products in high yield and good stereoselectivity. Reductive desulfurization gave the corresponding optically pure 2-hydroxycycloalkanecarboxylates.
