Abstract
Because of the nonuniform accessibility of its surface to ion transport from the solution, the double layer at an inlaid disk electrode charges anomalously in response to a potential step. A numerical simulation of the problem shows that the overall current versus time transient differs little from that for a single resistor in series with a single capacitor. Nevertheless, the charging process, away from the disk’s perimeter, differs surprisingly from what might be expected in that the current density initially increases with time.
