Abstract :
Oximes are organic compounds with a characteristic = N–OH group, derived by condensation of carbonyl-groups with NH2OH. In 0.1 M NaOH medium, formamidoxime (FNOH) molecule undergoes electrocatalytic reduction at Pt(1 1 1) and (1 0 0) single-crystal surfaces, which process involves UPD (underpotentially deposited) H. At Pt(1 1 1) plane, the reduction process is preceded by reversible adsorption of FNOH species in the double-layer potential range. These findings were confirmed through application of cyclic voltammetry and complementary for the (1 1 1) plane electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements, which allowed derivation of the kinetic parameters for both FNOH reduction, as well as UPD of H processes.
